Dian Fossey Museum & Grave Trek

A guided forest walk to the Karisoke site, where Dian Fossey worked and is buried.

Duration2 days / 1 night
Journey basisPrivate journey
Starts / endsKigali, Rwanda
Best timeYear-round. The drier months, June to September and December to February, are easier underfoot.

This walk follows the route up through the bamboo and Hagenia forest to the Karisoke research site, where Dian Fossey studied the Virunga gorillas and where she is buried beside her favourite animals.

It is a long, steep day at altitude and a reasonable level of fitness is needed. Guides set a steady pace, and there is time to rest at the site before descending.
