Golden Monkey Trekking

Track the bamboo-dwelling golden monkeys of the Volcanoes National Park.

Duration2 days / 1 night
Journey basisPrivate journey
Starts / endsKigali, Rwanda
Best timeYear-round. The drier months, June to September and December to February, are easier underfoot.

Golden monkeys live in the bamboo zone of the Virungas, and tracking them is a different experience from tracking gorillas: faster, more open, and often within an hour of walking.

Golden monkey permits are separate from gorilla permits. Many travellers combine the two, trekking gorillas one morning and golden monkeys the next.
